Set up the Reddit Pixel and check that events actually fire
The Reddit Pixel is a snippet of code on your website that reports what visitors do after they click an ad. Without it, a conversion campaign has nothing to learn from and a traffic campaign tells you only about clicks. Installing it is easy; making sure it reports the right thing is the real work.
What the pixel does
Choose events before you choose code. A page visit is useful as a baseline, but the event that matters is the one that represents your business result, such as a lead, a sign-up or a purchase. Reddit has standard events for common actions and also lets you define custom ones. Map each result to one event, with a clear rule for when it fires, so the number in Reddit can be compared with your own records.
Install the pixel on every page that should be measured, either by adding the snippet to your site or through a tag manager, and fire the result event only on the page or action that confirms the result, such as a thank-you page after a form is submitted. An event that fires on page load of the form itself will count visitors, not leads, and will teach the campaign to look for the wrong people.
Test before you spend. Reddit Ads Manager shows the state of the pixel and the last time each event fired, and you can click through your own site to confirm the events arrive. Check consent: if a consent banner blocks the pixel for part of your visitors, the counts will be lower than reality, and you should know by how much before judging a campaign.
Reddit also attaches a click identifier to the landing page address when someone clicks an ad. The pixel passes it along automatically; if you also send events from your server, you must keep it yourself, which is covered in the Conversions API guide. Make sure your pages and redirects preserve the parameters in the address so that the identifier survives.
What a healthy pixel gives you
- Optimization on a real result: the campaign learns from leads or sales rather than from clicks.
- Early detection: a pixel that is not firing shows up in a check, not in a disappointing month.
- Comparable numbers: each event has one definition, so Reddit, analytics and CRM can be reconciled.
Install and verify
- Write down the result you care about and the page or action that confirms it.
- In Ads Manager, find the pixel for the ad account and add its snippet to the site, directly or through your tag manager.
- Fire the page visit event on all pages and the result event only on the confirmation step.
- Open the site in a private window, complete the action yourself and check that the event appears in the pixel’s activity.
- Check that your consent setup does not silently block the pixel, and note what share of visitors it affects.
- Look at pixel health weekly during the first month and after any site change.
Data and consent cautions
- A pixel event is a signal, not a sale. Reconcile it against your own records at least once.
- Do not send personal data in event parameters. Send what the platform asks for and nothing more.
- AdAce Ads reads the state of the Reddit Pixel in an ad account and shows when each standard and custom event last fired; no events for days while leads are arriving is reported as a warning.
