From Meta to LinkedIn: what carries over and what does not
If you already run Facebook and Instagram ads, you know most of the logic of LinkedIn: objectives, audiences, creative testing, conversion tracking. The names and some defaults differ, and a few Meta tools have no direct counterpart. This translation avoids the mistakes people make by copying a Meta setup one to one.
What it does
Structure. Meta’s campaign, ad set and ad become LinkedIn’s campaign group, campaign and ad. The audience and budget that sit on a Meta ad set sit on the LinkedIn campaign, so one Meta ad set with an audience usually becomes one LinkedIn campaign.
Audience. Meta’s interests and behaviors become job titles, functions, seniority, skills, industries and company size on LinkedIn. Meta’s custom audiences from your site or list map to Matched Audiences (website retargeting, contact and company lists). Advantage+ audience expansion has a loose counterpart in LinkedIn’s audience expansion setting, which is better left off in the first test so you can read results.
Tracking. The Meta pixel corresponds to the Insight Tag, standard events to conversion rules, and the Conversions API to LinkedIn’s Conversions API. An Instant Form corresponds to a Lead Gen Form. The principle is the same: count a lead where it happens, and send quality outcomes back.
What does not carry over. Interest stacking and broad audiences that rely on Meta’s optimization do not work in a professional network where the audience is defined by job; clicks cost more, so creative must carry more weight per impression; and there is no equivalent to Meta’s automatic placements across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger. LinkedIn’s placement choice is mainly the feed and the optional Audience Network.
Why it helps
- You reuse what you know instead of relearning basic ideas.
- You avoid the typical mistakes of copying a broad Meta setup into LinkedIn.
- You see which Meta tools have no counterpart before you plan.
How to set it up
- Map each Meta ad set you want to reproduce to one LinkedIn campaign.
- Replace interest and behavior targeting with job-based facets and check audience size.
- Install the Insight Tag and create a conversion rule for your lead event.
- Adapt copy: Meta thrives on emotion and speed, LinkedIn on role relevance and proof.
- Run the first test on one objective with Audience Network and expansion off, and compare by cost per qualified lead.
Good to know
- A good Meta result does not predict a LinkedIn result; costs and audiences differ.
- AdAce Ads uses the same proposal and approval flow for both platforms, so you review LinkedIn changes the way you review Meta changes.
- Meta’s special ad categories do not exist in LinkedIn in the same form; follow LinkedIn’s own advertising policies.
