Edit targeting of a running Meta ad set safely
Meta stores an ad set's targeting as one object, and writing it replaces the whole thing. AdAce Ads patches only the fields you approved, so exclusions and advanced settings are never lost.
What it does
Editable fields: countries, age, gender, languages, Advantage+ audience, placements and devices, custom audiences included and excluded, and interests. The current state is read live when you open the editor; the proposal carries only changed fields.
Right before writing, the executor reads the targeting again, checks that the approved “before” still matches, replaces only the approved fields and sends it back. Excluded locations, behaviors, brand safety and other settings stay untouched. After writing, it reads back and updates the analytics copy.
Why it helps
- Targeting edits without the risk of wiping hidden settings.
- Changes made meanwhile in Ads Manager are detected, not overwritten.
- Undo restores the previous values of the same fields.
How to set it up
- Campaigns → “Propose a change” → “Ad set targeting”.
- Wait for the live targeting to load and edit the fields you need.
- Check the before/after list and submit for approval.
Good to know
- Owners and admins can propose targeting edits (they need a live read through the account connection).
- Targeting edits are never applied automatically — they restart learning.
