Audience breakdowns: age, gender, placement and device

Averages hide the truth: an ad set can be profitable for one age group and wasteful for another. Breakdowns show results and cost per result by segment.

What it does

For each ad set or ad group the service stores daily breakdowns by age, gender, placement (for Meta — platform and position, such as Instagram Stories or Facebook Feed) and device.

Inside an expanded ad set in the structure tree you see each segment's spend, results and cost per result, with the leader of each dimension marked using the same rule as elsewhere: good cost per result and the most results.

Why it helps

  • Find segments that deserve more budget and those to exclude.
  • Back targeting and placement decisions with data.
  • No manual pivot tables in the platform UI.

How to set it up

  1. Open Analytics and the structure panel for the account.
  2. Expand an ad set or ad group.
  3. Switch between age, gender, placement and device breakdowns.
  4. If a segment is clearly weak, propose a targeting or placement change.

Good to know

  • Small segments are noisy; the leader rule requires enough results before naming a winner.
  • Breakdown availability depends on the platform and campaign type.
