Google Ads impression share and lost share, live

Impression share tells you how much of the available demand your ads capture — and why they miss the rest: budget or rank.

What it does

The report is read live from Google Ads for up to 90 days. For each campaign with impressions it shows impression share, share lost due to budget, share lost due to rank, top of page share and absolute top share; for network campaigns, the content equivalents.

Google reports values below 10% and losses above 90% as boundaries; the service shows them as “< 10%” and “> 90%” instead of pretending to be precise.

Why it helps

  • Know whether more budget would actually buy more impressions.
  • Separate budget problems from bid and quality problems.
  • Evidence for budget conversations with clients.

How to set it up

  1. Open Analytics and choose a Google Ads account.
  2. Open the panel “Impression share, quality, assets”.
  3. Choose the period and read the campaign rows.
  4. If budget loss is high and results are good, propose a budget increase.

Good to know

  • Live reads are available to owners and admins.
  • Nothing is stored; the data is fetched at the moment you open the report.
