UTM campaign results in GA4: sessions, key events and revenue
Ad platforms tend to credit themselves generously. GA4 data joined by utm_id gives an independent view of what each campaign brings to the website.
What it does
For a client with a connected GA4 property, the service reads sessions, key events and revenue grouped by utm_id and campaign and matches them with ad campaigns. Next to spend it calculates cost per key event and ROAS by GA4 data.
The report works best when every campaign carries a consistent utm_id; UTM templates and the final URL suffix take care of that.
Why it helps
- An independent check of platform-reported conversions.
- See campaigns that bring traffic but no engaged sessions.
- ROAS based on website revenue, not only platform attribution.
How to set it up
- Connect GA4 for the client.
- Make sure campaigns have utm_id through UTM templates or a final URL suffix.
- Open Tracking and the GA4 report; choose the period.
- Compare cost per key event with platform cost per result.
Good to know
- GA4 and ad platforms use different attribution, so numbers will not match exactly.
- Campaigns without utm_id cannot be matched reliably.
